Give each role a distinct job
Use roles for recognition, appropriate access, or a meaningful community identity. If adjacent roles do the same thing, members have little reason to care about the threshold between them.
Check the time behind the level gap
A seven-level gap can feel immediate or very distant depending on your curve and activity. Model the pace before publishing a rewards schedule or describing a milestone as easy to reach.
