- Exclusions can apply separately to text, voice, reaction activity, achievements, and live periodic leaderboards.
- Channel and category exclusions are useful for commands, utility areas, and spaces where XP would not represent contribution.
- Test exclusions in the actual Discord channel type you plan to restrict.
Start with obvious non-progression spaces
Commands channels, bot feeds, and administrative rooms usually do not need XP. Excluding those first gives you a cleaner signal without creating a long list of rules that members struggle to remember.
Keep exceptions legible
Explain the broad rule, not every internal setting. “XP is earned in community discussion and events” is clearer than a list of IDs. If a member asks why a channel does not count, you should be able to explain the reason in one sentence.
